Getting To Schiphol Airport By Bus

The airport is only a 20 minute journey by bus from the city centre and there are numerous city bus connections covering Amsterdam, its surroundings and towns nearby.

Passengers who stay at one of the airport hotels will usually be able to board one of the many shuttle services provided by the hotels. There are courtesy buses leaving from the area just outside the Arrivals Hall at the Schiphol Plaza. Some of the hotels providing this service are the Hotel Dorint, the NH-Schiphol, the Hotel Hilton-Amsterdam, Hotel Ibis and Hotel Mercure.

City buses are offered by several operators. The Schiphol Sternet buses from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol run at frequent intervals, starting early in the morning and finishing late in the evening. Some night buses from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol run once per hour throughout the night.

The bus stop for all Amsterdam Airport Schiphol buses is located at Schiphol Plaza, just in front of the departure and arrivals halls. Additional buses operate at rush hour to help transport commuters as well as tourists.

City centre buses to Amsterdam – Leidseplein from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are operated by the Lines 197, the night bus N97 and night bus 358.

Passengers also have the option of even faster travel via the Zuidtangent express buses. This bus operator is permitted to use specially designated bus lines that avoid the rush hour traffic. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol buses from Line 300 link the airport with the districts of Haarlem, Vijfhuizen, Hoofddorp, Amstelveen, Ouderkerk and Amsterdam Zuidoost. The buses operate at least six times per hour and there is one service per hour at night time.

There is incidentally no need to travel to Amsterdam Centraal railway station in the city centre - Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has its own major train station from where passengers can board trains to domestic destinations like Rotterdam, Eindhoven or Groningen or take Intercity or high speed trains to major cities in other European countries such as Belgium, France or Germany.

Amsterdam’s main street is called Damrak, where the beautiful old merchant houses line the sides of the streets, but in a city dominated by waterways, most tourists want to find the famous canals, or as they are locally known, the Grachtengordel.

The Musseumplein is the area where most of Amsterdam’s world famous museums and art collections are housed. Amsterdam’s inner city architecture is mainly Renaissance in style and heritage, but there are still plenty of wonderful Baroque buildings on display which date back to the 17th century and the Netherland’s Golden Age.
